No More Scruffy Charwoman

I confess.  I have looked awful all summer.  My typical outfit is dull, drab and stained with years of ground-in dirt that no washing soap will remove.  I spend so much time outside in the garden or doing other tasks that tend to make me sweaty and dirty that I see no sense in donning a nice looking, colorful outfit each day.

But enough is enough.  Even I'm disgusted with the way I've been looking and vow to find some clothes that look spiffier for next summer season.

In the meantime, I'm determined to improve my everyday appearance while spending most of my time in and around the house this winter.  I just finished ordering three new pairs of pants and three new (colorful!) turtleneck tops.  (Love those turtlenecks.  Couldn't make it through the winter without them.)  Now until the packages arrive in the mail, I'll be sending forth pleas to the Clothing Gods that the items actually might fit me.  Especially the pants.  (Every time I order pants through the mail, I swear I will never, ever do it again.  I did it again.  Sigh.)

I harvested this good-sized basket of green peppers (only one was showing signs of turning red) yesterday and making some Stuffed Green Peppers for the freezer is on the agenda for today.  Hubby loves them and they are an oh-so-easy "convenience" food for me to pop in the oven for an evening meal.

We don't have any chickens that lay green or blue "Easter eggs" but one of our new pullets seems to be experimenting with laying pre-decorated eggs.  Or maybe it was that she got this one three-quarters of the way out and just ran out of "coloring?"

Ha ha, that egg is too funny! I have been feeling the same way about what I've been wearing too. Hubby gave me permission to order some clothes next paycheck. I still need to get the girls shoes, but will be searching out a nice comfortable outfit. Today I dug out my sweaters and found only 2 turtlenecks. It's freezing here today compared to the usual 70's too. I did don a nice top, sweater and even my boots. I LOVE dress boots this time of year.

I hear you on the clothes! My hubby asked me if I owned anything besides old ratty t-shirts? I liked the egg story!

I do the same thing with shoes. I order them online and they never fit. If I stopped wearing all my grubby ratty clothes our rag bag would be overflowing! Weird egg. I feel like that hen though, kind of out of color before the day is over.

I have several sets of clothes. Outside clothes, inside clothes, and town clothes. Unfortunately I often make the mistake of "just running outside to do one wee thing" in my inside clothes! You know it's all downhill from there.

I love those egg color surprises. I miss our Welsummers for that reason. And I have to say your peppers look great!

Mama Pea,

I heard on the news parts of MN received snow, did you get some? Temperatures are dropping, stay warm :-)

Ordering clothes on line drives me crazy. It has to be done because of where we live. When the items arrive, I usually have to send them back because there to big or to small depending on where they're manufactured.

Kristina - We have limited dresser/closet space in our bedroom so when I need to get out my winter clothes, I have to bring them down from an upstairs storage area and then pack up my summer things and take them back up there. A real pain, to say the least so at the change of seasons, I usually don't have the proper clothes until I FINALLY get my rear in gear and make the switch. Since rain/snow mix is forecast for the next couple of days here, methinks I'd better do the switcheroo!

Liz - I think it's easy to fall into the "dumpy" clothes trap when you don't have to go out in public everyday for your work.

My daughter said I should blow out the egg and keep the shell for Easter this year!

Sparkless - Yep, I know that "run out of steam" feeling. Especially when I wake up waaay too early of a morning!

Leigh - Yes, have you noticed how easily the "inside clothes" can become "outside clothes" if you're not careful?

I'm pretty good about changing into "town clothes" when I have to go run errands. Heck, I even put on some makeup! I don't know if I'd be recognized if I subjected people in town to the "at home" me!

Sandy - Thirty miles north of us they had rain/snow mix yesterday and it's in our forecast for the next couple of days. We had a low of 34° overnight, but still no frost yet. I can hardly believe it!

Our nearest stores to go clothes shopping are 2-1/2 hours away so I order things on line, too. My husband is always ready for a hissy fit from me when they arrive and DON'T FIT! I complain bitterly about the cost of returning things, etc., etc. but he keeps reminding me it's just part of our choosing to live where we do. Hrumpf.

Haha, your wardrobe sounds like mine. My mom actually bought me a few pairs of capris this year for my birthday, and some new shirts, after she saw my wardrobe when she came to visit. I have my "I don't care how dirty they get, they aren't ever coming clean" clothes, my "oh they aren't that bad" clothes, and then a few things I can wear to church lol.

That looks fabulous Leigh! I can't wait to get my pigs next spring :) I actually met someone local the other day who had American Guinea's. Going to have to find out where she got hers.

Sorry about that extra comment about the pigs....must have been stuck in my "clipboard" from when I was at Leigh's page hehe.

We think alike! I knew it was time for new tops when my sister made fun of my clothes hanging on the line to dry.
I have 2 new pairs of pants, now I need tops. Love the egg!

Stephanie - The thing is when you're on your hands and knees working in the dirt, how are you supposed to stay clean. Have to admit it is a little disturbing when the knees of my pants look just about as bad when they come out of the wash as when they went in!

No problem about the "pig" comment. I knew it was meant for Leigh!

Rue - Ha! You should have asked your sister if she had any hand-me-downs she wanted to contribute to your worthy cause! ;o)
