It Won't Last

We have 6-8" of new snow on the ground this morning, and it's still coming down.

But, seriously (you think I've finally lost it, don't you?), it really won't last long.  I think we've had more than the 6-8", but it's sinking into the ground even as it piles up.

Our temp has stayed at 32° for about the last 24 hours, and we keep expecting the white flakes to turn into rain drops.

Can you see the garden beds still peeking through on the right hand side of the above picture?  They're fighting, not wanting to go down for the count again.

Shot of the pond and curve of the driveway above as it goes into the woods.  Papa Pea doesn't want to plow because the road bed underneath would get too torn up, but a 4-wheel drive vehicle will be able to get out if we have to before this all melts.

Needless to say, it's a winter wonderland (or perhaps I should say "spring wonderland?") out there, so we're working on sorting, cleaning and rearranging in the storage loft and basement 'cause we sure can't get anything done outside yet!

Does this mean that ALL inside jobs will be completed for the year? I admire your stick-to-it-iveness - I would be crying in my Ovaltine by now. I better iron-clad (or insulate?) my Big Girl Panties if I intend to retire norther... :)

Susan - No way on earth ALL inside jobs will be completed before we can start on the outside tasks!

No need for insulated Big Girl Panties . . . when you've just come through the winter we have, 32° feels absolutely balmy. (I'm not kidding, but I will admit it's darn damp out there right now!)

As I see my seedlings start to poke their brave, little green heads out of the starting medium, I'm wondering if I STILL started them too early this year. :o(

You have more snow than us. We only got about 2" yesterday.
I went to visit a friend who was working outside in the snow/rain/wind, with hair dripping and coveralls full of mud she told me she was really glad that at least it was warm out-34 degrees. Balmy and we really do appreciate it.

Seems like we live in two different countries - worlds?! Yesterday was cut the grass and weedeat day; today plant irises I dug up from my Mom's, well, I guess it's really 'Dad's' as Mom is gone.... but consider these irises a remembrance of her as she loved them so. I dug up about 50+ - Tom didn't believe me, until he started planting them for me. :)

Gasp! But then, if I remember correctly, we also had snow just last week. It was gone in 24 hours. Hope yours disappears as fast as 8 inches possibly can. :)

Oh my! I had to burst out laughing. It's like the snow never ends for you. All that snow reminded me of all the rain we got last year. It's so cold here today I actually had to fire up the pellet burner for heat.

Oh, and I forgot to mention it---don't you DARE send that stuff my way!!!
Be nice, dear lady, be nice!

I'll know spring is here when you change your banner picture to something green. I'm taking advantage of a break in the weather to plant fruit trees today. Tomorrow the wind returns and then days of rain (needed).

That is just crazy, me being from Florida I cant even imagine.

hehehehehe Sorry but it is a bit comical at this point. When's it going to stop? Maybe your area is going back into the ice age and the snow will never leave. It may be time to get some sled dogs and build an igloo.
Sorry, I know it's not as fun for you and you want to get outside and garden but only Canada controls the weather and this year you're it!

odiie - As they say, "Everything is relative!" A temp ABOVE freezing? That's spring time in northern Minnie-soda!

Mama Pea said...

Sue - Well, shoot. That's exactly what I was gonna do! Hee-hee.

Mama Pea said...

Lisa - Oh, I do love irises, too! My mom was not any kind of a gardener, but she did plant purple irises against the front of our gray house and I always thought they looked so nice.

Mama Pea said...

Tyche's Minder - We saw a temp of 39° for a high today and I thought more snow would melt than did. But we had no sunshine, just grayness, so I suppose that didn't help the melting any.

Kristina - The scary thing is that in five more days, it will be MAY 1ST! I can't keep snowing then. Can it??

Mama Pea said...

tpals - I keep thinking about changing my blog header photo, but why should I when the view out my window looks just like that?! :o[

Linda - I know! I can't even imagine wearing shorts, a tank top and flip-flops. Even we northern Minnesotans are saying enough is enough now!

Mama Pea said...

Sparkless - So Canada controls the weather now? We need to talk . . . ;o)

Sparkless said...

Mama Pea, you have to talk to Eastern Canadian Weather Control and I think their number is unlisted due to all the complaints.

Look at it this way. While we are having drought and temperatures above 100 degrees, you will be having near perfect weather.

Yes, you lucked out and got less snow there than we did. Some of the folks over the hill from me got 18" and some were still snowed in on Saturday. Haven't heard if they got out yet. Yes....luckily, it usually melts fast this time of year. But then, it got into the 20s last night and was frozen hard this morning.

OY VEY !!!!!!!!!

Mama Pea said...

Ilene Jones - That's one of the reasons hubby and I can tolerate our long winters and cold springs . . . we both absolutely MELT in your temperatures!

Mama Pea said...

FoxyLady - Yep, I think we were a little too la-dee-da about it melting quickly. Ours has gotten crusty and hard as cement. Would have been nice to have had the sunshine we were supposed to get today . . . but didn't!

Mama Pea said...

Akannie - Make that double OY VEY!!!!!
