You Asked For It

Gosh, in the dim recesses of my mind I seem to recall a TV show (this was way back in my childhood) called "You Asked for It!"  People wrote in with weird questions and the show presented answers to the inquiries.  Anywho . . .

In answer to multitudinous two requests, here's a little more info on the spring shower curtain I'm making.

These are a few (not all of them) of the strip sets I made to begin construction.  They were set together on the diagonal.

And formed these eight vertical strips.

Next they had to be trimmed . . .

. . . which left this pile of triangles.

Of course, I couldn't toss them (gadzooks, no!) so put them in a baggie and then into my special box of scraps that I will probably never someday dive into and create unbelievably magnificent quilted pieces that will end up at the Smithsonian Recycling Center.

The strips all trimmed up.

Then I cut the alternating panels on which the appliqued vines and flowers will go.  I didn't yet cut the plain panels to size because applique work tends to pull a piece of fabric up/in/smaller and these panels will probably be a tad bit shorter when the applique work is finished.  There will also be 1" wide strips of a blue fabric between the colored panels and the appliqued ones, but I won't cut them until the panels are completed.

Cutting out and constructing the applique pieces takes a lot of time.  Yesterday I got all the bias stems made . . .

. . . and some of the flowers cut out.  Next the leaves and then I'll be ready to start the applique work fun!

I love that design - can't wait to see the applique - lots of work, for sure.

Wow, is that going to be gorgeous! I cannot believe how much detail and small work and planning and sweat and stitching (did I leave anything out?) is involved in this! You are a master quilter in all sense of the term.

OMG, that is a LOT of work! My eyeballs are hurting just looking a pictures of the teeny tiny pieces. And you wonder why I only made one very simple quilt.
Looking forward to seeing the flowers put on & the finished product :)

Little Homestead in Boise - Don't give me too much credit! I didn't make up the pattern, although I am making a few change to it. It was originally a pattern put out by Connecting Threads. I purchased the fabric there, too.

JoAnn - Lots of work, but I so enjoy doing it!

Susan - No, m'dear, I am not a master quilter at all. (I think I could be better if I had all the time I wanted to give to it though.) Other than maybe the applique work, this is really a very simple pattern. Thanks so much for your kind words!

Carolyn - You don't give yourself enough credit, girl. All quilting takes is an interest and the patience to be accurate. Honest.

This is going to be so beautiful! What patience you have! :)

Mama Pea,

You are one talented woman. Can I come stay with you a month so you can teach me?

Candy C. - Thank you very much. Isn't it funny . . . we can have such patience for something we love to do, but seemingly none at all for what we consider an onerous task??

DFW - Sure! :o}

I quilt. My mother always had a quilt in the frames. Her mother did not quilt. But she had a mother who was very much into it. I most enjoy the piecing of a quilt, I love seeing how the colors go together and the patterns change depending on several things. I wish it didn't take so long to do the quilting. I think that's going to be a really nice-looking shower curtain.

It will be gorgeous!!! LOVE IT! At first I thought you'd be 'done' when you turned the blocks on the diagonal - which I think are so pretty just like that - but to add another panel, or two, and stems and leaves applique Wow! Your bathroom will feel like you are stepping into a 'secret garden'. Thank you so much for sharing with us multitudinous folks :) Can't wait to see it finished!
PS Come to think of it, it must be nice to work on such a light-hearted Spring-themed project in the dead-of-winter. Good idea!

Ilene Jones - Piecing is my favorite part of quilting also! I do enjoy the actual quilting part whether it be by hand or machine, but you are right! It just takes sooooo long. And there are so many new projects wanting to be started!

Lisa - The really nice part of working on a spring-themed project while we are still in so much winter . . . is that I just may get it DONE before spring! :o}

wow you have been busy, see what you can accomplish while snowed in .......

Do you do anything that isn't perfect ? and you sure can't find a nice quality shower curtain like that one in just any old store ,its gonna be beautiful

Mama Pea said...

Tombstone Livestock - Haha! I sure wouldn't be getting much done inside if it were summer and all those outside chores were calling me!

judy - The statement should be, "Do you do anything that IS perfect?" The answer to that is a resounding NO!

Before I got the idea to make shower curtains, I always kept a plain white one on the rod because I thought it "went with everything." One day my daughter told me it looked way too "institutional." That's when I decided to give a try at doing seasonal quilted ones.

Thank you for your kind words!
