The Pictures Say It All
Looking out our living room windows this morning.
Going out the garage people door. Or not.
Drift up against the door out to the deck. That measuring stick is metric on the opposite side and 39-1/2" on the side showing.
Chicken Mama, after delivering Tucker, trying to plow enough to turn around and head back out our driveway.
Here she's on the level showing the depth of the snow on her pants. Keep in mind she's just under 5'9" and has her father's loooong legs.
Tucker trying to navigate through the snow. He strongly resembled a very furry weasel not so gracefully bounding from one spot to another. Poor little guy could have used a pair of snow goggles.
How much snow did we get? Dunno. Haven't heard any "official" stats and there is so much drifting, we may never know!

Yes, Tucker has it even worse than Toby. He is shorter. I'm sure he didn't like all that one bit. At 5'4", I am shorter than Chicken Mama....however, when the snow is up to my crotch on the south side of the house, that had bare ground there last week......it's deep. Even down on the county road, it was at least knee deep all over, trying to miss the drifts. In front of the garage....wow! I had a hard time to get thru it with a bale of alfalfa.
It's April 19th for heavens sake!
I heard 22" in Two Harbors where my honey is stranded. It drifted higher than my head on the south side of our barn. We shoveled a tunnel to get to the critters. Now to try and get our driveway snowplowed. The county plow just went by. Snowshoes to go and collect the sap today!
It's beautiful, but oh my that's alot of snow! Poor Tucker LOL! One year when we had a good snow. I opened my back door to let my dog out, she jumped and disappeared. I got her back in and cleared her a path but it scared me to death!
It was tough going getting the chores done this A.M. I still have to dig out the buck's water bucket. It's completely covered up right now. That means I'll have to shovel a path to the bucket in order for them to use it. Ugh. I've shoveled more in the last two weeks than I did all winter. I sure will appreciate "spring" this year! :)
Oh dang :( Was hoping you would get some warm sunshine instead.
Hmm. My post disappeared. Maybe it's covered in snow and you'll find it in the spring - June? Wow! That is a LOT of snow! Is it usual to have this much snow this late? I know our weather is colder than usual, but it's nothing like yours! Thank goodness for CM and her plow!
guess all the global warming is here in California .............. could you mail me your snow if I pay the postage?????? I should be able to havest a few peas soon .....
Take care, hope you get some sort of spring soon so you can plant your garden to refill your freezer.
I'm glad we moved to Alabama. Snow in April sucks. I think its time for some groundhog stew don't you think? Cause apparently he was WRONG, early spring...pfttt
You sure someone didn't send you Alaska's weather.
Foxy Lady - It always amazes me how very taxing it is to walk (or try to walk!) through deep snow. I can't imagine doing so while carrying a bale of alfalfa hay!
DFW - Yeah, Mother Nature, it's April 19th for heaven's sake! :o)
odiie - Omigosh, you'll be standing higher than the taps on the trees!
Kelly - Imagine how your dog felt when she found herself surrounded on all sides, top and bottom with snow! A new experience!
Patty - Hang in there, Girl! You know it's going to be one of those years when it's winter, winter, winter and then one day the temp will zoom up to the 70s and we'll be in summer. Drat, no spring for us again!
Stephanie - I know you're just dying to come up here and play in the snow, aren't you? (Hee-hee!)
Susan - In 2010 we got 2' of snow on April 20th. The last two years we've had exceptionally warm weather in March and April so it seemed we left winter behind long before this. The old timers up here tell us it wasn't uncommon to have a snow cover into the first of May, so maybe we've lived through our stint of "global warming" and are going back more to the way it used to be.
Tombstone Livestock - I'm looking at my started seedlings telling them not to grow too fast!
Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could have a heavy blanket of this wet, wet snow that would soak into your parched ground within 24 hours?
Eat a pea for me, will ya?
Denise - Aw, come on, in a couple of months when you're melting into a puddle from the heat you'll be wanting some of our still cool breezes! (Or maybe not.) ;o}
Maybe the moral of this month's weather is never trust a groundhog.
Michelle - Just heard on the radio that the DNR issued a statement today saying Minnesota's drought is officially over. (Wonder how they figured that out?)
Well now this is just getting stupid! I'm going with "Conspiracy Theory"!
Holy moly, well no drought there anyway...
Beautiful to look at. But then my green grass and blooming trees are pretty too....Whaa Haa Ha @;>
Look at it this way: with all that poor man's fertilizer you're sure to have a bumper crop this year! If you are ever able to get out and plant anything, that is...
YIKES. We had a frost, but nothing like this (thank goodness) !!
Now our temps are heading up up up...mid sixties today, 70's tomorrow. I'll take it. We're hoping to get some garden work done, if it'll just dry out some. The Mississisloppy is at flood stage...
Please tell me you aren't still digging out of all that snow. I hope it's melting now and you've seen the last of the snow for the season. It's onward to spring and all that back bending and kneeling. Ohhhhh I think I want winter back!
Erin - Would you believe more forecast to come??
Nancy - That is the one good part of all this!
Tami - Even us crazy folk up here near reindeer land (just kidding) would rather have the green grass and blooming trees now!
Jen - Very funny, very funny! ;o)
Akannie - "Mississisloppy!" Love that. Sure hope it doesn't go higher and cause real damage.
Sparkless - Finally got the last of the clearing done and we have had some melting. But would you believe the forecast for tonight is 4-8" more?? Is there no end? Arrrgh.
Wow - and I thought we had a lot of snow. You win!! :)
Mooberry Farmwife - Yup, we sure are the weiners this spring! We've had more snow this month than all winter . . . very strange weather!
