Finished Spring Wall Hangings

With all the snow and winter-like weather we've been experiencing, I feel very out-of-sync putting up my spring decorations.

I finished the two new wall hangings for the living room.   They are hung and hopefully encouraging spring-like weather.  (If this strategy fails, I'm getting my snowmen back out from storage.)

This small piece is only 15" x 9".

I've had this iris material for a couple of years with the intent of using it to make a new spring/summer shower curtain.  Now that I've used a bit of it for this quilted piece, I'm not sure I have enough left for the originally intended purpose.  (I'll bet I can find something else in my [ample] stash if necessary.)

A close-up of some of the quilting on it.

A view of the two pieces from across the room.

I know my pictures aren't great, and I get all kinds of flack from my daughter regarding the poor quality of my photos.  I tell her she's the photographer in the family . . . and I don't have the patience (or talent) she does!

Love love love those wall hangings...I'm especially fond of "flags" as my granny always called them. Irises at my house are all yellow and purple....rescued from a yard cleanup that were going in the trash. woohoo!!!

Your pics are fine...and your house looks lovely!

Those are so beautiful. BTW, you have enough talent (and in so many diverse ways) to share with all of us!-M

They are wonderful! I guess you can thank the spring time snow for giving you extra time in your quilting studio...or not. I l.o.v.e. the hanging with the scalloped edge - that must be difficult getting it just so. You are so talented!!!

Your photos are better than mine and us out in blog land don't really care about picture quality that much. We just like to have pictures period. Very pretty wall hangings.

Akannie - Oh, yellow and purple irises . . . the best! I can grow vegetables well enough but with flowers . . . not so much. I must get with it and learn how.

M - I am blushing. (Where did you say to send the money?) ;o)

Susan - You're so right. If the weather were different (read: snowless), I would be outside this time of year.

Scalloped edges do prompt unladylike words . . . at least in my quilting room. But I do so love the look they give to a piece.

Thank you for you generous compliment!

Sparkless - I agree! (Of course, I would!) A crummy picture is worth more than no picture. Thank you!

Those are beautiful! Lovely work and whether the spring weather comes quickly or not, they have to make you happy just looking at them.

They are both great. I really love the second one. I still need to get my spring/summer stuff out.

Iris are very easy flowers to grow, if they grow in your climate, I need to check mine and make sure I get pictures. Just bought some more a the college a few weeks ago.

Your wall hangings are awesome, as for the pictures, they are great, sharp and clear, and that's all we need.

The great thing about irises is they grow themselves. LOL I don't have time for high maintenance flowers, that's why I have things like honeysuckle, lilacs, irises and lilies everywhere. Everyone thinks my yard looks so great, and I take all the credit, lol, but the truth is--all perrennials, all self maintaining.

Red Hen - Welcome and thanks for commenting! Thanks very much for your kind words. More snow expected for us this afternoon into tomorrow so I guess we won't be seeing spring outside for a while yet.

Michelle - Anymore it seems like the seasons come and go so fast it's hard to even decorate on time! I'm sincerely wishing I had left my winter ones up longer now. Geesh.

Tombstone Livestock - Yes, irises do grow in our area. I just have a hard time figuring out what flowers to put where. Which ones need sun, which need shade. I need to sit down with books (I already have!) and do a little (or a lot) studying!

Anything at all that we can do to be more spring-like at this point is welcome! 5 inches of the white stuff has already fallen today and we're to get another 3 - 5 over night. SIGH

Your wall hangings are beautiful! You are SO talented!! Hubby painted this weekend so I'm in the throws of redecorating the livingroom which led to another room, which led to another...... It will be a slow process of finding fun finds from thrift shops & flea markets (we haven't decorated much in this house and we've lived here 9 years??!?!) but I love what we've done so far - so keep the inspiration coming, please?

I'm off to my sewing room, I think I'll pull the shades so at least I don't have to look at the white stuff. Ugh!

Akannie - Oh, but m'dear, you still have to weed and feed and know where to put what so they look nice. You can't fool me!

Freedom Acres Farm - We got about 2" overnight with more to come tonight and into tomorrow. It just started snowing really hard here within the last hour. When is this gonna stop?

Thanks for the nice words on the wall hangings. We've done all our decorating with inexpensive finds and things I've cobbled together. When we had NO money, I decorated with pictures cut out of magazines mounted on construction paper! Recalling those hard years a friend once said to me, "You never had much to work with but your house always looked so cozy." I took that as a fine compliment. So it really doesn't take a lot of money, does it?

Beautiful! I love your wood walls... so cozy!!

Thanks, Shannon! We do get comments about our house feeling cozy when people see it for the first time. And I like that!

gorgeous, I love that scalloped edging!

Mama Pea said...

Erin - Thank you! It still looks pretty inappropriate hanging on the living room wall with all this snow we still have outside!

Oh! These are absolutely gorgeous. I am in love with these wall hangings. And I guess your quilting is enough talent you can be proud of.
