It's true, not much has been going on to report or make for blog fodder. But that's a good thing because it means nothing has stopped working or fallen apart.
I've been out of pie crusts for a while so yesterday I spent some quality time with an audio book at the kitchen counter making up a big batch of crusts for the freezer.
Then as long as my head and hands were in a pie mode, I made a custard pie. (Does anything say old-fashioned, down-home goodness like a custard pie? A custard pie and to-die-for hash made with leftover roast beef always make me think of my grandma.) The top of my pie got a smidge bit more browned than I would have liked, but it will still be edible.
I've been in a cleaning mood lately (which is always a good thing) so next I started in on our bedroom.
My closet was the scariest so I dove in there first. Only got as far as the top shelf. (How could so much stuff have been stashed up there on that not-very-wide shelf?)
When I had all that clattertrap spread out on the bed, I tore into the bookcase which held more stuff that didn't really belong there.
As you can readily see, the arrangement in the bookcase is far from done. In the meantime, I've created a mess on one end of the kitchen table. (Fortunately we have a big kitchen table now. Otherwise, no meals would be served there in the foreseeable future.)
I've had a bad habit of tossing things I didn't know what to do with into miscellaneous baskets and boxes and stuffing them in said bookcase. These all need to be gone through . . . and the contents dealt with.
I did manage to get the surface of our bed cleared so we had somewhere to sleep last night. But that doesn't mean I've come close to finishing with the cleaning and reorganization of the bedroom and its contents. A couple more double shot lattes this morning and I might be tough enough to get back at it.

LOL...you sound like me. And last week I tore all the mess out of the back pantry/closet...and it's still laying all over the place. Sigh...I've been on the run a lot these past few weeks, and am not staying caught up.
Oh well. It waits for me.
Yep, you're right! Trying to clean up one mess just makes another one! But that custard pie sure make up for the aggravation.
Akannie - You've had a good excuse(s) for not staying caught up! And you're right, our messes don't go anywhere (except maybe to multiply!) when we can't get to them. All in good time.
Tami - Kinda like remodeling or replacing furniture as you're finding in your living room! A new piece makes everything else look bad so you're caught up in the "everything is connected to everything else" syndrome!
We had custard pie for breakfast (well, it is full of eggs and milk!) and it wasn't too bad!
My intentions are always good but I keep getting derailed and lose forward motion. Need to take an issue at a time and stay on task til it's done.
Reminded that I need to organize my sock drawer. It takes me forever to find a matching set these days.
I'm with you there...on the baskets of stuff. I have a few myself...might want to look at it again or finish reading it...OOfff! Also, the not much to write about. I have been chasing ice photos up and down the shore... Sometimes I have to wonder how many are enough, even if they are pretty or fun. You don't find that special, magic moment if you don't get out there. Then, of course, there is the hot doe, yet...driving the boys all nuts! :)
That's the one thing I hate about organizing stuff and that's deciding what to do with it all. If I had the space to put things it would all be organized so it could be found easily. I hope you can find the proper place for everything.
UG! Now you've infected me with your cleaning bug and the closet is beckoning me to come clean it!
I always make a mess when I am cleaning/organizing! LOL seems inevitable doesn't it?
What do you put in your custard pie? We do one can of sweetened condensed milk, a can of water, and six eggs. Then top with nutmeg before putting in the oven. I LOVE custard, and always eat if for breakfast if it's in the house :) Thankfully for me (but not my waist), the kids don't like it.
I'm afraid to clean up because it seems to become even MORE of a disaster!
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Tombstone Livestock - When I created a really big mess from a really big project, there's nothing to do but finish it. Otherwise, we can't function in the house!
DFW - Don't you match up your socks when they come out of the laundry? Gak, if I didn't do that, my husband would just grab any two socks and wear them!
Foxy Lady - Oh, I know! Even though I'm not a "saver" I find it hard to throw out a lot of stuff. But I do it 'cause it just accumulates way too much if I let it.
I think it's a sign of a good photographer that you keep chasing that perfect picture. As you say, if you're not out there, you'll never get it!
Sparkless - I've found that just by cleaning, sorting and organizing I always have more room than when it was all just a jumble. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!)
Stephanie - It always looks worse before it looks better!
My custard pie filling is 4 eggs, 1/2 cup honey, 1/4 t salt, 1/2 t vanilla, 1/2 t almond extract and 2-2/1 cups scalded milk.
Carolyn - Pretty wimpy excuse there, Sweetie! ;o]
Why is it we have to make a bigger mess to clean up and organize the initial mess?! It just feels so good when it's done, though. And this must be the time of year for custard pies, as I made a coconut custard pie just last week. Have a good day Mama Pea!
Lisa - I can usually zip my way through tearing something apart and getting it back together, but this particular jobs involves sorting through saved papers and cards . . . and that seems to be very time consuming for me.
Maybe this is the time of year for custard pies . . . years ago it certainly was the time of plenty of milk and eggs!
You know, this is exactly why I haven't tackled my craft/knitting closet. In order to make order, the disorder gets spectacular! I had it on my list to work on it leisurely over the winter....
Susan - Better get on it, my friend! The winter is just about over. Kaputz. Gone. Finis. (Or . . . you could just put it on your list for NEXT winter.)
Thanks! Will have to give it a try :)
Stephanie - You're very welcome!
Ah, but those baskets make everything better, don't they? Baskets hide so many messes!
Erin - Can you believe I emptied all but one of them? So how important could that stuff I was saving have been??
