An Evil Combination

There seems to be something widespread in the air these days that is a combination of procrastination and low energy levels.  I know I've been fighting it and it's been mentioned by other bloggers.

The good news is I think I've been shaken out of my own hum-drum, bah-humbug, I-don't-feel-like-doin'-nuthin' mood . . . and it's about time.

Papa Pea and I sat down yesterday afternoon and went over things we'd like to get accomplished this coming spring/summer/fall season . . . and then discussed the things we HAVE to get done this coming spring/summer/fall season.  I think it really helped to face the cold, hard facts surrounding our time, money and (in some cases) skill levels in tackling our goals.  We made a good start on scheduling and we'll see how it goes this spring.  (Then most likely make adjustments necessary to insure keeping our sanity through summer and fall.)  Now that we've discussed and sorted through things that have been rumbling around in both of our heads, having a general plan has energized me.  It always helps to have a plan.

This morning I received (via our daughter) an e-mail that put a big grin on my face and gave me the impetus to get my rusty duster into my quilt room and work on a fun project.  Potholders!  What else?

The e-mail was from the wonderful little gal (yes, she's about as big around as a pencil) who was matron of honor those many, many moons ago at Chicken Mama's wedding.

Here's part of what K wrote:

" . . . it's just NOT ok that I have to
place my springy, lemon muffins
on my Halloween potholders."

True, I had sent her a pair of Halloween themed potholders a couple of years ago, but I didn't think the silly girl was using them year 'round!

So I had a good time today thinking of this beautiful gal with the whacky sense of humor who always makes me smile whenever I hear from her.  The potholders only need the binding put on them tomorrow and they'll be ready to send off.  I'll remember to take a picture to post before packaging them.

You'll be happy to know we averted a real crisis here this afternoon.  We had plumb-dumb run out of kindling!  (I know, I know, such a monumental tragedy.)  We have plenty of bundles of pre-cut cedar wood stacked high and dry in the wood shed next to the kindling bin, but I've been a ba-a-a-d be-prepared-homesteader in not getting it split up and ready for fire starting.  So I swathed my body in adequate layers of clothing this gray, damp, only high in the 20s day (again) and worked on getting several bundles worth split and tossed into the kindling bin.  I'll keep at it, doing some each day, until I've split all we've got cut and ready.  I hope that will take us through the spring heating season when we typically use a lot of kindling.  We don't keep a fire going during the day as it gets warmer outside and often not even overnight.   Therefore, we use more kindling in starting a fire both morning and in the late afternoon or early evening most days.

Time to turn off the computer for the night and possibly get ready for an early bedtime.  Feels like a good night to get into bed and read . . . maybe tonight for more than my usual 6-1/2 minutes before I konk out.

A plan sounds like a fantastic idea. Glad it's invigorating you. Feb. and Mar. are always tough months to get through energy wise.
Enjoy your book.

I've been Super Sloth Woman lately.
But I'll need more than a plan to get me going. Maybe a sharp kick to the bum.

It IS good to have a plan. How nice that you've whipped up new potholders! Such a practical yet creative endeavor. Kudos.

Good luck on your plans.

The winter blahs have been here too, even though we haven't gotten any real snow to speak of. For us it has been a pretty constant rain several days a week (which is good), but it's hard to get motivated. Sounds like you and Papa Pea have laid a good groundwork for the projects, will be curious to see them over the course of the year. :)

Springtime definitely helps with getting inspired to start projects. I'm not buying the "don't have the skill" part though... you and Papa Pea could do most anything!

Simply Scaife Family - Don't think it's been winter blues . . . unless I'm blue 'cause WE HAVEN'T HAD ANY WINTER! Grumpf. It's only been a few days that I've been so energy-less. Guess that's not bad, huh?

Sparkless - Didn't go to bed early last night. Chose to sit in living room and do some non-recreational reading next to hubby. But that was okay.

Carolyn - SU-per Sloth Woman! I love it!! There's no way you could be Super Sloth Woman with a three year old, all your critters, a home and husband to take care of. You may feel lacking in oompf, but you're still getting a lot accomplished each day. (Secret: We expect too much from ourselves on a 24/7 basis.)

LindaCO - I never get tired of making potholders and inflicting them on people because I can use a different pattern on each one and they become a FINISHED product in so short a time. Close to instant gratification. (I'm no dummy.)

Tombstone Livestock - Thanks, we'll need good luck. We always joke that we make our list of things-to-do for the good weather months and then realize that a "normal" person would pick one (just ONE) on the list and that would be their project FOR THE WHOLE SUMMER! (Will we ever learn?)

Stephanie - Yes, rain is good but it confines you to the indoors more than snow! Hard to even work up the energy to go out for necessities!

Erin - Thanks, Pal. Yup, I suppose we could figure out how to do just about anything . . . but in the past I know when all is said and done, it's taken us about ten times longer to accomplish certain things than it would a person who knew what they were doing! (No doubt ends up looking ten times worse, too!)

Doesn't it feel great when the 'low-energy' feel is shed?! A plan, a little 'action' and springtime around the corner is a winning combination and you've got it!! I'm with Erin, there's nothin' you and Papa Pea couldn't do. Credit needs to be given, where credit is due here. :) Hope the sun is shining your way today and your plan is going well.

I've had the winter humdrums myself! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.

There is nothing like a plan to get you going! I have many plans!! I find that I less likely to overwhelm myself into a "freeze" of mind and body, if I portion out my plans to inside, outside, garden, sheep/llama/goats/chickens. Hahahahaha. {{{FREEZE}}}

Lisa - The sun IS shining today! And it's wonderful.

I told hubby yesterday that I think low energy/droopy feelings all can really be overcome if we just decide to get our minds (and maybe hearts) in the right place. But doing that is kinda like doing enough sit-ups to attain a flat tummy . . . it takes time, a strong will and a lot of work!

The Weekend Homesteader - Good to hear from you again! It does help, doesn't it, to realize we're not the only one who has to fight the grumpies now and then.

Mama Pea said...

Susan - 'Cept then you have SEVERAL lists staring at you rather than only one (HUGE) one. (But I know what you mean and agree with you totally.) No matter, we all just keep slogging along living this life that is for the most part pretty darn great, right? (Well, if you disregard having to go to the dentist.)

Thanks for this post, I needed some inspiration! Amazing how having a plan really helps. I've noticed too, that if I just get started, motivation isn't far behind.
