We don't watch much TV. It's infrequently on during the day. Yesterday morning I was home alone so popped on the little set in the kitchen to check out a couple of shows I haven't seen in a long time.
As with others hearing the horrible news, I was at first stunned, then felt physically ill, then plunged into a well of depression.
Not again. Please, not again.
I watched the TV screen transfixed, tears streaming down my face while I became sadder and madder.
When will this end?
It's not about gun control. Anyone who thinks it is, is refusing to look at reality. It's about our sick, sick, sick society.
Fellow blogger Ruth Dixon over at Hope, Faith and Joy Farm wrote a post that says it better than I can. You can read it here.

I wholeheartedly agree and posted something similiar last night. Society is going the wrong direction.
So sad ... I agree gun control is not the total answer, but I don't think everyone needs assault automatic or semi-automatic weapons. Thoughts and prayers to all in Conneticut community.
I just wrote a blog that I think you should read and pass it on to others. It will shed some light on what goes thru a persons state of mind.Let me know what you think.
I can't even begin to imagine the grief that the families who lost children are feeling right now. So senseless, such a waste.
Gun control needs to be better, but the individuals who are disturbed enough to carry out such acts will find a way no matter what. Somehow we need to figure out a way to address the underlying issues before it comes to such an act. Children should not have to know combat maneuvers or wear bullet proof gear to be safe at school.
Yes, Ruth said it well!I feel a bit guilty being at home now with my loved ones,After the worst week of my life,With Jerry surviving his code blue experience, and returning to us .My heart feels so heavy for the moms and dads of all those small children
ArtsyNina - I pray that we can effect a change soon. I'm truly afraid that unbalanced individuals are becoming copy-cats . . . especially with the extremely over-done media coverage.
Tombstone Livestock - I agree absolutely that assault weapons should not be available to anyone who can put down the money for them. But I'm sure you've heard the saying, "When guns are outlawed, only the outlaws will have guns." Even if gun control is made more stringent, someone intent on doing what the shooter in CT did will find the weapons he wants. Sadly and tragically.
Annnightflyer - You wrote a very insightful post. Thank you. I left a comment on your blog.
Jen - Yes, addressing the underlying issues is where we need to start.
judy - Oh dear, so sorry to hear of Jerry's bad experience. But glad to know he's okay now.
Losing a child has got to be the very worst experience for a parent. Yes, a heavy heart is what we all are feeling right now.
My heart goes out to those parents and children. Such a sad thing to happen so close to Christmas. I'm trying not to watch all the coverage on this but it's so hard when everyone is talking and blogging about it.
May the families involved and everyone else find some peace this season.
When someone drinks and has a wreck driving home we punish that person not terminate the car manufacturer or the alcohol brewer. We as the humans are the problem.
Earlier this week I read about a doctor who's ex-husband (a doctor also) was being released from a mental instituion only 3 years after stabbing their 2 very young children to death. He'S walking free while she has nightmares about the pain that each stab cause her children. So yes, ban guns. They'll just pick up a knife, a baseball bat.......
Thank you Mama Pea. I enjoy your blog.
I think much of our society's mental illness comes from a lack of good nutrition. So many kids eat only junk food, such as sugared cereals or pop tarts for breakfast, sugary drinks, chips and fast food for lunch and who-knows-what for dinner. This at a time when their bodies are growing and need prime nutrition. It is no wonder so many youth, and adults for that matter, are off their rockers. Our bodies need real food and lots of minerals that are sorely lacking in the modern diet. I am talking organ meats, and real animal fats. Our brains just can't operate normally without these on a regular basis. Sugars are way out of control as well. On top of that, our society has removed God from everything, and what are we left with? Just my two cents...
Sparkless - The holiday season will be forever changed for those involved in this latest tragedy. I, too, have avoided the news coverage since it first happened Saturday. Let's all hope everyone involved can find some peace.
Debbie - Thank you, Debbie, for your thoughts on this. I couldn't agree with you more. If not an assault rifle, then someone would obtain a bomb to throw into a gathering of people.
We have to get back to common sense and values back.
Melissa - Yes, yes, YES! I believe so much in this! And yet I hesitate to even bring it up because so many people just don't get it! There is no way in the world our bodies and brains can develop properly without proper nutrition. It simply IS NOT POSSIBLE! Why people can't see that the reason for so much cancer, auto-immune diseases, and mental (think Alzheimer's and dementia) deficiencies is so frustrating! Our bodies cannot grow and function perfectly well into old age without nutrition.
Your two cents worth is worth A LOT! Thanks for saying it.
You are right, it isn't about gun control. I still think a lot of this starts at home with the parents teaching kids responsibility and accountability. They need to know right from wrong and know there are consequences if they screw up. But, I still think too many video games of violence are a problem with their mental attitudes these days too. It is what they see and what they live. If a kid does have a lot of mental issues going on, the parent, if they are paying attention!!!, should notice.
Foxy Lady
I'm exhausted from all this emotional pain the past week, your other commenters say it well!
Foxy Lady - Excellent points! The crumbling of our society has started with the destruction of the family. Good (and bad!) does start at home.
Erin - I imagine this last disaster would hit you hard on more than one count, Dear Friend.
