Ah, yes, it's the little things in life. Could hardly wait to hang the door valance and half-curtain this morning.
All is right with the world. (Ha, don't we wish!) Our cobbled together curtain rod hanger job seems to be firmly attached to the blankety-blank thin metal, hollow-cored door, and my sewing project of yesterday is officially finished.
So tell me true. That outside door off the living room (yeah, I know, strange situation anyway) now looks like a kitchen door, right?
I'm hoping it will look better when I paint the door (it's only been primed) once I pick out a color. A color that will go with the color of the living room furniture. When I get the living room furniture. Someday.

The white looks nice and goes with any color.
I like the valances...good job!! Really like the shelf with the books at the top of your walls!!
It looks terrific! That should keep the deer from peeking inside....
They look great! So when you decide on a color for the door, what's the best way to paint it? I have a metal door to paint and I don't want it to look "painted".
I think it looks fine and back in cubby like it is it has it's own niche so to speak. Don't you love my cliche? Probably spelled wrong sorry. You could choose a bold color like red or green but cream or tan is soothing . I like bold but I only have 1 wall dark red/burgandy so who am I to say?
Tombstone Livestock - Thanks mucho, but I want some bold color . . . I think.
Kathryn - Thank you! Everybody likes the bookshelves so much I guess we'll have to keep 'em. (Hee-hee.)
Susan - Don't cha just hate those Peeping Tom deer??
odiie - I've always had good luck with a brush . . . as opposed to spraying which doesn't work for me at all. If you have trouble with brush marks with a bristle brush, try a foam brush. I love them for all kinds of applications.
Lisa - Yeah, I definitely have a bold color in mind. A dark green? Or deep, rich red? Cream or tan is soothing but with the walls being paneled in the warm pine I think I want some contrast. I'll have to run the colors by everyone when I get that far.
Mama Pea,forest green I love that color and it actually will go pretty much with any color. My kitchen in our cabin will be forest green.Anytime you want a rustic look you can't go wrong with this color!
I would go with a burgundy on the door, but then again, depending on how much light that little corner gets, it might make it seem too dark? Glad the fix for the curtains worked!
Annnightflyer - In my mind's eye, that's the color I'm gravitating toward. I've always had a liking for most any green color.
Stephanie - It's a corner of the living room I'd just as soon not draw attention to (and it does get quite a bit of natural light) so I think I will be safe going with a darker, richer color.
MP, the door and curtain look great in the photo. It's good to be able to see out a door so you don't bump into someone else on the way in or out. I can see why you would like to paint it a color though. As you said: with the light paneling a dark color would look good and would be the "ying" to the paneling's "yang". My favorite color is blue but I find that hard to work with when decorating so I usually go with a green. Although we did paint our dining room something called Apple Cider something or other and I love that. Of course, I love the name so maybe that is why I love the color.
PS: Did you know that there is a gizmo that will wind most machine bobbins separately from the machine? It's called a SideWinder (get it .... winding a bobbin by the side of the machine instead of on it? cute name, huh?) I bought one from JoAnn's with a 40% or 50% coupon (yes, they seem too expensive otherwise as they are made out of plastic as usual) for about $15.00 I think. And I actually use it quite often unlike some other sewing "tools" that I have bought. Just an FYI carried over from your machine sewing post.
Love the photo of the door! I know you'll find the right color, and it will be perfect.
Karen L. - Aren't we funny-bunnies in that the name of a paint color can either turn us off or make us choose it?!
I have heard of the Side Winder, but I'm not much for gadgets of any kind (give me a wooden spoon over an electric mixer any day). And when it comes to spending money I always reason that I can make do without whatever it is I'm thinking about. Not necessarily the best way to be. Good to know you have it, and use it. Nuthin' like a REAL person's experience!
Thanks, Leigh. Can you detect that I'm really kinda stuck (at least in my mind) on the green you used in your kitchen?
