This is what we just ate for lunch today.
A luscious bowl of vanilla ice cream and beautiful cantaloupe (the color on this picture isn't enhanced at all . . . the melon was actually that color) straight from the garden.
Unfortunately, it wasn't my garden. We went 130 miles south of us yesterday to pick up laying mash and grain from friends of ours who have a very successful farming operation. While there, we were lucky enough to get a tour of their garden and orchard. I nearly wept at the beautiful bounty of their grape arbors. (Someday we're gonna get grapes established and successfully growing here. Someday. It's on the list.)
T gave us one of the biggest cantaloupes I've ever seen plucked right from the vines in her garden.
So that's what we had for lunch today . . . cantaloupe and ice cream. We both couldn't help but contentedly sigh and moan (several times) because of how good it tasted. It was wonderful. (I think it's a proven fact that when you eat ice cream as your lunch, the calories don't count.)

That is the most beautiful melon color I have ever seen! And that, my dear, is the lunch of champions!
Oh my! That looks like a delicious lunch.
I had a cat who loved cantaloupe. He always knew when I was cutting one up or eating some and would come running to beg for a piece.
My dad loves cantaloupe and ice cream and eats it whenever he can. He hasn't had it this year yet though, so for the sake of keeping the drool off my laptop, I'll not show him the picture of your decadent lunch! :)
mmmm, could you send me some cantaloupe and ice cream too?
Susan - It sure gave me lots of energy for this afternoon! Or maybe it was the temperatures in the 60s. I tell ya, there's nothing like invigorating fall temperatures to put a spring in MY step!
Sparkless - Yep, it's the aroma that gives a good cantaloupe away every time. Coming home yesterday, the enticing aroma permeated our whole truck! (And that was even before it was cut into.)
Mama Tea - This was our first one this summer. The ones at our organic co-op have been so pricey that I've avoided buying one. So I guess it made this one from our friends extra special!
judy - Sure. But I'm gonna have to find a bigger envelope . . .
Now see, I do not find that those two things go together. Yet apples in pie and ice cream go together well. I guess I am strange that way. My Husband would say ice cream goes with everything though.
What a beautiful lunch!!! My mouth is watering lol
Jane - I've heard a lot of people say that ice cream and cantaloupe don't turn their crank. Maybe you have to grow up with it? I did. But then, would I eat ice cream and watermelon in the same way? No way!
Stephanie - Only trouble was it didn't stick with either of us. By 4:30 our stomachs were growling (really) and we couldn't wait to have dinner. Which didn't include ice cream. Honest.
I'm with Jane, I had never heard of it and wouldn't think they would go LOL, but it sure looks pretty! :)
