Not Bragging

The following list of what I did today is not meant to impress you. It is meant as therapy for me so that I can learn to be content with what I get done in a day's time and quit feeling like I could/should have done more.

First thing this morning I decided that instead of crossing items off my rather (ahem) extensive To Do List, I would simply write down what I did all day.

* Put away dried dishes from last night while making my morning latte.
* Checked e-mail and drank my latte.
* Fixed and consumed breakfast.
* Picked 2/3 of the blueberries.
* Stopped to go up to the farm and get milk.
* Bottled milk and started a batch of cottage cheese.
* Did dishes from breakfast along with containers from milk.
* Finished picking remainder of blueberries.
* Picked all the raspberries.
* Finished ironing I was too tired to get done last night.
* Got some "old" towels from storage in back shed that are in better shape than the towels we're currently using.
* Prepped and ate lunch.
* Watered window boxes and flowers in pots.
* Finished making the cottage cheese.
* Tossed old flowers in vases and cut new ones.
* Emptied drip pans in two refrigerators.
* Cut up last third of watermelon.
* Put resurrected towels in washing machine.
* Sat and talked with daughter when she popped in for her (2 p.m. to 3 p.m.) lunch hour.
* Readied two raised beds for fall planting.
* Put towels in drier - too lazy to put up clothes lines and hang outside.
* Sat at computer and ordered a new supply of audio tapes from the library for hubby and for me.
* Neighbor stopped over on her way home from work to pick up raspberries and blueberries I had for her. Visited a short while.
* Ate dinner of leftover cold pasta salad.
* Planted kale and lettuce in raised beds.

Now that I see it all written down, I admit I did accomplish a lot. And I'll bet if any of you made a list of everything you did of a day's time, it would be much like mine.

How did I do on my To Do List? Not so good. There remain six important things I didn't get close to doing. And I still have dishes to wash again tonight. (See? That's what I have got to stop focusing on! The things not done. Professional therapy may have to be involved.)

You forgot to write down "wrote blog post."

See, this wouldn't be a problem is you just got up at 3 a.m.
Opens up a whole lot of time to get things done!
Heck, I had 5 dozen cookies baked by 5 this morning. See??

;)

Oh, I get all that done too but in a week!!! I think I'd be ashamed to see the small amount I get done in a day. But I messed my hip up bending down today to clean up the cat vomit off the carpet. I wish the cats would learn to vomit on the floors and not the carpets. *sigh*

That is a good idea - making an "I Did" list. But then I'd have three lists. "I Did List", the "Need to Do" list and the "Want to Do List". And then there's the "Get Paul to Do" list, my favorite.

Whenever Paul asks me what I do all day (and when I DON'T immediately bite his head off) I always say that I'm going to write EVERY SINGLE thing down that I do every day just so I can show it to him. I just may have to do just that.

I know what you mean about the towels. My Mother sent some over for me to use as rags, but they were better than my bath towels. So we went to use them but when they got wet they smelled horrible and I could not get that smell out. I really need to break down sometime and buy new towels.
You have a very productive day and should be very happy with the list.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who wanders around doing what needs to be done instead of working the list! Sometimes I feel like the kid in that Family Circus cartoon, wandering around and crossing my path all day. I just wish I could get an accurate reading of the miles walked within 100 feet of my kitchen table where all life centers. Congratulations on all the berry harvest. The birds got most of my blueberries this year.

I so do this! My normal to-do list was getting so annoyingly 'noisy' to my ears as I saw each day slip by without crossing things off, feeling blue that I wasn't getting 'anything' done, yet knowing I was 'busy' each day.... I started tracking, like you, all the stuff, big and little, I did each day.... and felt soooo much better as I could tangibly see that I do a lot more than I was giving myself credit for! You're doing great Mama Pea!

Such a good idea! If I finish something that's not on my list, I will write it down just so I can cross it off. Lately, tho, I've been having lots of naps, and giving myself time to chill. I don't put that on the list.
I think you're doing a good job. Give yourself a pat on the back.

JJ - And I wrote a blog post. :o}

Sue - I know, I know. Sigh. Will I EVER obtain your standards?? (You KNOW I actually want to!)

You put on the oven?? And baked cookies? (If my husband finds out, he'll be headed your way within 15 minutes.)

Sparkless - Indoor pets ALWAYS managed to hit a carpet when they upchuck inside. It's an unwritten rule of the Animal Kingdom. I'm sure. Take care of that gimpy hip, Girl.

CR - I read my list to my dear husband at dinner last night. Halfway through he started yelling, "Stop! Stop!" I don't know whether he was impressed . . . or bored.

Tombstone Livestock - Naps are under-rated. I've just lost my ability to take them. Guilt keeps waking me up.

Mama Pea said...

Qwaynt - HA! You're a fine one to say that! You've been known to move mountains in a day's time. Well, maybe that's a slight exaggeration. Just build a garage or something small like that would be more like it. ;o}

Jane - My daughter has dropped a couple of hints concerning the state of my current towels but I didn't realize how ratty they were until I pulled out these "old" ones I had retired that now look so good. Gulp. Do we indeed get blind to certain things as we . . . ah, um, er, age??

Mama Pea said...

Trailshome - The thing is if I DO work on one of the big projects all day (like painting walls in the garage), then none of those 1,001 little, everyday things get done and I'm still left with a feeling of under-accomplishment! I need a clone.

Sorry 'bout your blueberries. :o(

Lisa - You and I need to enroll in Over Achievers Anonymous. Or go to a Do Nothing spa for a month to learn how to let up on ourselves and be happy with what we do get done.

Lori - I really like your idea of having lots of naps. Please do a tutorial on how to do them. I need the lesson. Badly.

I need to do a list like this!

Erin - You should! I think you, Wonder Woman, would be surprised at how long and extensive your list would be.
