They said we were going to get a nice rain last night . . . and we did! I just checked the rain gauge and it measured an honest two inches.
The rain has stopped now, although the forecast is for more all day today. Earlier this morning while it was still coming down, I had to put on rain gear and go walk through the garden.
It always amazes me how much a garden appreciates good, ol', natural rain. I am positive everything has grown about six inches overnight!
The inside of the house is quite dark this morning. A situation we haven't experienced in ever so long. No bright (HOT) sunlight shining in. I've put on little lights and lamps and it creates quite a cozy atmosphere.
Granddog Tucker looks like he's ready for a relaxing kinda day. (Is he giving me the Evil Eye for waking him?)
If the weather stays this way all day, I have big expectations for getting my desk cleared and caught up on correspondence. Fingers crossed that will happen . . . owhhi teb euyysat . . . but it's really hard to type that way.

So glad you got a good dose of rain - very refreshing. It sure is a good thing you got your berries picked when you did. Ah, desk work - I will be doing that this afternoon when it gets hot and I come inside - supposed to 90 here today.
Enjoy your rain, I would love to have 2 inches of rain in July, unless it brought thunder and lightning with it.
That's a significant rainfall! We could use some rain like that - but it was cool this morning, thank goodness. Tucker has the same expression on his face as I do, when I've been roused from a nice nap...
2 Tramps - Although we're not suffering as a severe a drought as other parts of the country, we were getting really, really dry. Brown grass, powdery garden soil and our little pond was shrinking to a mud puddle. This 2" was so good to get.
I'm especially glad I got to the raspberries yesterday. The rain tends to knock ripe ones off quite easily.
Pace yourself in your high heat!
Tombstone Livestock - Lightning and dry conditions are not a good mix. We heard thunder last night but didn't see any lightning. Hope adequate rain finds you soon.
Susan - Having never seen you when you've been roused from a nap, I can't comment on the resemblance to Tucker's picture. But snoozing on a rug (as the continues to do) this morning doesn't sound too bad to me, I'll tell ya!
One hundred and six.
Need I say more?
:(
Oh. You have my utmost sympathy. I would not be functioning at that temperature. We are down to 66 degrees on this rainy (wonderful) day. Wanna move north?
104 when I got home from work this evening. Bright sunshine, blue sky... sigh....
I think there are many people who would nearly kill for 2 inches of rain. Glad someone is getting it.
We'll be up your way in a few weeks- on Lake Vermillion. I'm hoping there is better stuff at the farmer's markets there than there is here.
Judy
Judy - This day (rainy and dark) felt so unusual. I don't know when was the last time we had a day of rain. But, oh so welcome! Can hardly wait to see what the garden will do after this. I think I'll have to stand back to keep from getting knocked over by plants shooting up!
So your garden isn't doing much 'cause of lack of rain?
I've been watering so we are getting a few things. I gave up on my beans- I couldn't keep them watered enough. The peppers and tomatoes are holding their own but not much is setting fruit because of the heat.
The local farmers are also feeling the pinch. There isn't the quality or quantity of local produce available to supplement my own. But I'm just hoping to get some good local fare while we're up north.

Yeah for rain!!! We are going to have a heat index of 105-109 today, so our plan is to stay in the ac all day lol. Enjoy the rain and enjoy the catching up :)
Our heat index is to be in the 105 range for today and the news is already broadcasting heat warnings for much of our state. Rain.... what is rain...
Stephanie - I think you're being very wise in laying low during those temps!
Lisa - I almost don't want to talk about the rain we're getting because so many folks need it so desperately and aren't getting it. We work so hard on our gardens. Then when insects or drought ruin it all, it's truly hard to take.
Oh, We had the same heat index as the others here in southern Ind. the past few days. But, it brought storms and RAIN!!
Katidids - HOORAY for your rain! Hope it did a lot of good things for your garden and yard.
glad you are seeing the days start to show the end of summer, I think many of us are really looking forward to fall this year :)
