In Place

I can totally understand how these "remodeling" posts might be as interesting as a box of rocks to all of you, but each one chronicles a step closer to having the remodeling completed to me. And at this point of the game, every little step toward that goal feels good and I'm thrilled to have this particular piece in place.

While putting the last coat of finish on the TV/stereo/bookcase unit this morning, it felt like it took me ten times as long as the first two coats. Seriously. Wonder why that was? Maybe it was because we were actually getting close to finishing it and I wanted to have it DONE and be able to install it.

So here it is . . . in place. I love the way it ties in with the book boxes above it. Now hubby has the not-so-easy job of rerouting the wires for the TV hook-up the whole length of the house (in the crawl space . . . never a nice place to have to do any work) in preparation for moving said TV out of our bedroom (yay!) and into the living room. Maybe tomorrow?

Right now, I'm pleased as punch to have this unit designed, built, polyed and finished. Cross it off the list! One more step toward completion of our living room remodeling.

It's very nice. I love how it ties all that storage space together. What a clever plan, and it looks great.

Yeah!!! That looks fantastic. Poor Papa Pea having to crawl around in the crawl space tomorrow though. Icky!

That is beautiful. Remember, you are doing this for yourself. Love how everything is coming together.

I really like the look of those shelves. So glad to hear you're getting close to the end!

Trailshome - We were hoping it would all tie together but ya just never know until you see it done and put together!

Sparkless - And it is a very small crawl space at that. He always comes out with bruised forearms and knees! Poor guy. :o(

Beth - Thank you, Beth! (So good to hear from you.)

DFW - Thank you for the reminder to keep my patience to the forefront! I know I will enjoy it all for Y-E-A-R-S to come.

It looks great!

LindaCO - Me, too! ;o) Outside of finding furniture that fits and putting the wood stove back in, the only thing "construction-wise" to be done is getting the finish on a bit of door and window molding but I'm waiting for warm weather to do that so I can open up everything to get the odor out. Eventually, when I know the colors of the furniture upholstery, I think I'll paint the doors to the basement and greenhouse a color to match. They've just got the primer coat of white on them now.

Thanks, Tina!

That is so awesomely beautiful! Built in thingies like that are so nice to have. AND, I'm showing Paul the book boxes 'cause I want them in the basement now! You're going to have to get a pic of you & hubby relaxing in front of the tv when it's all finished!

Mama Pea said...

CR - Papa Pea likes the book boxes so much he wants to put them on the opposite wall, too, but I'm afraid it will make the already small room look even smaller. (NOT that we don't have enough books to fill more of them!)

I've always loved older houses that used to have more built-ins in them so this is my little attempt to get some built-ins and special little hidey-holes in our abode.

Freedom Acres Farm - How very nice of you to say! This is a "journal" of what's currently going on in our life and any post that strikes a reader as boring can easily be skipped, right? :o}

Linda - Thanks, Linda!

Sue - I've always liked pine . . . can you tell? (The light wood doesn't show DUST nearly as much as something darker! Hee-hee.)

looks wonderful,a finished ,complete ,all-done,did I say completed,oh how I carry on,only because I am so envious of a done project -that is a 4 letter word around here ,and boring is not a reason for me not to swing by to say hello-I have been a bit busy and totally pot of my league--listening to full freezer give a grad party but for me its like moving ,a job I hate and takes talent and time-who's got all three ? I have not entertained in over 30 years .so everything from the invites to ordering chairs and tables has been a night mare- June 9th-the busiest day of the year for grad parties? who would have thought ? except for a dummy? I even resorted to calling a funeral home for chairs, bad enough Patrick is getting a cadaver bone in his knee for his surgery AFTER the party.and when inviting Richards other grand parents who are the stickers amongst stickers for competence and doing everything in a hostess of the most-est fashion.you can't even swing by and visit this woman without a invite and I forgot to add her husband to the envelope--!

judy - Sounds like you've got your hands really full planning the party for your grandson. Something like that is always a bit of a hassle even when all goes smoothly! But I'm sure it will all turn out very nice and something he will remember all his life. Graduation from high school is a big deal for kids. Bigger I sometimes think than graduation from college.

Oh, your shelf looks fantastic! I love the offset shelves and supports, so much more interesting than a regular rectangular blob.

Mama Pea said...

Thanks, Judy - We thought for a while about where to put the supports. Some places were dictated by what we wanted to put in the particular space, others were set to look good.

Oh it looks so good!! Well done Mama Pea:)

Jane - Try to catch up on all the other stuff around here that is being ignored during the remodeling!

Mama Pea said...

Denise - Welcome and thanks for commenting! Bless your heart for the kind words. I'll keep up with the (boring) remodeling posts 'cause that's what's happening on the homestead to a large extent right now.

Mama Pea said...

Prairie Cat - I can relate to the tiring effect remodeling has on one! ;o} Glad you enjoy them.

Mama Pea said...

Simply Scaife Family - Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Mama Pea said...

Stephanie - Don't wanna boast but it did turn out well, didn't it? Now I'm eager to get it filled!

Well, you said that top would look great once it was mounted on the bottom unit .... and it does! And the living room will be so neat and tidy now. A place for everything, everything in it's place. Poor Papa Pea! My dh has claustrophobia so he always has a difficult time if he has to maneuver around under the house. He is not a happy camper then. He keeps saying that our next house will have a "real" basement. So happy to hear that you are almost done and will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor .... and maybe have your kitchen and sewing studio cleared out and useable.

Love it! 'So perfect for putting a TV in its proper place. Good job you two!-"M"

Mama Pea said...

Karen L. - The living room furniture has been moved out of the kitchen for a couple of days now and every time I walk in the kitchen, I think, "Wow, what a BIG room!" Well, ya, when you don't have a coffee table, recliner and one other chair frame in there! My quilt room? I'm still working on that. Sigh.

Mama Pea said...

"M" - I wanted to have doors that covered the bottom half where the TV and stereo will be, but gave that up as too complicated. I am eager to get all "the stuff" on the shelves to get the full impact of how it looks now.
