A Catch-Up Day

Yep, this is a catch-up day for me that I know will go by far too fast!

I did succeed in getting all the seeds and transplants into garden soil yesterday. Phew, it does feel good to have that done. Of course, this doesn't mean there still aren't a plethora of on-going jobs to keep up with relating to the yard and garden, but getting the garden "in" each year is, as you all know, a task that some days feels monumental. (And is it ever "done?" Once one crop is harvested, we just can't bear to see that bare soil without planting something else in it's place.)

Woke up today to much grayness with a 90% chance of thunderstorms. The rain started around 10:30-11:00 but so far it's been a nice, steady drizzle that is giving needed moisture along with other benefits to all green and growing things out there. I do hope it continues all day long.

It's a perfect day for being inside . . . and cleaning. As I'm getting into that task, if you were here you'd hear exclamations of "Oh, yuck!" and "Ish!" as they escape my lips curled in disgust. I truly don't know when the last time was that I did any cleaning (hang your head, Mama Pea) other than a quick sweep of the kitchen floor or wiping down of the counters. Until I have a chance to remedy this revolting situation, I'm not letting anyone wearing white gloves inside the door.

The other thing I want to do today is spend some time at my desk. I am hereby issuing a blanket, public, sincere apology to those of you I've owed an e-mail to or neglected to communicate with for way too long. There doesn't seem to be enough hours in each day to squeeze in everything. Last night as we were getting ready for bed, I told my hubby that today I wanted to spend all day at my desk/computer. And all day cleaning. And all day in my quilt room. (Is that called refusing to face reality?)

Right now I need to get off my rusty-duster and get back to my cleaning. Once that is done, I'll feel one heckuva lot better and might even have some time left to get to another task or two that's been hanging fire.

Cleaning? Wazat? I love the three-days-worth of things you want to do. I think it's a good thing the days aren't longer or we would be flat out in no time.

You can't possibly have that dirty a house with only you and Papa Pea in it. I've got cobwebs with more dirt in them than your house has!

judy - OMG, judy, what a scary thing to have to go through with Jerry. You just never know what little emergency is going to pop up, do you? Thank heavens he is going to be okay. Hope you can get a couple hours of sleep 'cause you need it!

Susan - You might have a point there, Bloggy Friend. I know I sure do have a hard time "stopping" at night because it stays light so long. Then I collapse into bed without any wind-down time and can't fall asleep. Well, I think half the time my body is asleep (or maybe just comatose) but my head won't turn off. :o\

Sparkless - HA! Ya wanna bet?! I'll send you my cobwebs if you'll send me yours. ;o)

It is truly amazing how dirty our house does get. I used to be able to blame it on our dog, but that excuse doesn't work anymore. I don't know if it's because we're outside a lot and bring in grit and grime (we don't take our shoes off when coming in) or because we live in the woods, have a gravel driveway and yard or what, but the dirt does pile up. I know wood heating makes a lot of dust, but we're sure not firing the wood stove much this time of year. I guess we're just related to Charles Schulz's Pig Pen.

Like minds! I'm cleaning my kitchen...started at 5 a.m. it's now 1:30 p.m. and I feel I've just barely scratched the surface! AND there's only 2 of us! Trying to get everything spruced up before I start canning...and mess it up again! I need several of those 3 day days myself!

Lynda - We sound more alike than you may know. Before I start on a big project (canning, baking, cooking for the freezer) I have to clean the kitchen first! And canning/preserving sure can mess up a kitchen, can't it? Especially the stove!

You seem like a super-busy lady. Good thing you RETIRED from the real estate business or you wouldn't have time for the three or four full-time jobs you do now! :o)

I always feel better when my house is clean. I fell uncluttered and guilt-free. I hope you got some quilting done too though1

The Weekend Homesteader - Some quilting done? Ha! It took me all day to clean the kitchen and bathroom. Dinner is done now and I'm debating whether to stretch out with a book . . . or go squeeze in some quilting.

A whole day to clean... and company isn't coming over? Wow! I'm impressed! Of course, I could use the same thing. Plus a day quilting, and another day in the garden and another day.... well, you know how that goes.
Glad you got something accomplished.

It's hard to balance it all out sometimes, I think you are doing great! Especially since you don't have any extra hands like I do. Keep up the great work Mama Pea!

Hey Mama Pea ~ no one better ever do a white glove test around here, whether I've 'cleaned' or not as I've determined that 'country' dirt is different than 'city' dirt. No comparison. After having said that though, the best 'therapy' to make me feel better is cleaning the toilets. Yep. Cheap therapy.... always works.... hmmm... I think I'll clean the toilets today.... :)) Hope you're able to squeeze in some quilt time. Have a great day today!

Hmmm, no apology needed here - you have been on my email list for far too long and I can't seem to get my act together this year LOL! I love that feeling too after the initial garden is in. I've been doing well (that's relative LOL) on the "no more cleaning every week" thing, as a matter of fact my house is a wreck! I manage to sweep every 24-48 hours now, that's an improvement over my obsessiveness, but now I find its even easier to stretch that into several days and am reveling in the mess heehee!

Judy - That's when you know your house is REALLY dirty . . . when you clean and there isn't company expected!

Mama Pea said...

Stephanie - You don't fool me! Sometimes getting those "extra hands" to help is more trouble than doing it yourself! ;o}

Lisa - I know what you mean about the good feeling when toilets are clean. (I just don't like the actual cleaning!) It's kinda like the almost euphoria I feel when the house is totally clean. Why, oh, why can't it STAY that way for more than a day??

Erin - I have been silently applauding you for your new outlook this summer. Important to get in a lotta family time in the next few months! And we all know you can clean the house from top to bottom one day, and your work doesn't even show in 48 hours. But the super-most important thing is that our families (whether it be just you and your significant other or mom, pop and kids . . . oh, yeah, animals, too) are well-loved and happy!
