Tour Of Tiny Room (It Won't Take Long)

Here's the tour of our living room to-be I promised you last night.

The door to the kitchen is on the far left of this picture. The south facing side of the living room has two big windows. This is mainly of the left one.

Going around the room clockwise, this is the right hand south window and end of the couch on the west stairway wall.

The couch and Papa Pea's current chair so positioned so he can be close to the open fire at night and toast his tootsies. (Note box of old files he's slogging his way through at night.)

Papa Pea's chair again and the north wall of the living room. The wall paneling is photographing strangely. It looks pale and freckled.

Next you can see the wood stove and the storage unit taken out of the old kitchen/living room area. This will go up into hubby's office and we'll build a similar unit with sides that will go from floor to ceiling. It will have a wood box on the left bottom with drawers for storage on the right. The floor to ceiling side on the left will be covered with fire-proof material as will the walls behind the wood stove, probably Z-Brick. The top of the cabinet part of the unit will hold a new, moderately sized flat screen TV for DVD watching and Mama Pea will celebrate when the very old, very large, clunky cabinet, small screen TV leaves the bedroom. Shelves for books will go above the TV. The door to the right leads into the kitchen.

That's the 25¢ tour. Hope you can get some idea of what the room looks like. There's too much furniture squished in there and not of the style I want but it's a place for us to park our buttinskis of a winter evening for right now.

Well I am ready to pull up a chair and warm myself by your wood stove. I dont think it to full. I was wondering what your long term plans for the floor are? Tile, carpet, wood? Cause your arm might just fall off if you are making a rug that size

And oh my goodness just look at those quilts!!!!!! See, you can/do quilt. Maybe you should just combine your two blogs and show quilts here whenever you get the chance to make on. And today that woodstove looks nice and toasty. It's gray and yucky here today as it has been for that last couple of days. Ick!

That looks like a wonderfully cozy living room. It's going to be beautiful when it's done cause it already looks pretty good to me.
I think it takes more pictures to show a small room than a large one. I can never back up enough to get a whole room in a shot in our house so that makes it hard to take pictures of the inside of our house.

Jane - Got a giggle out of your comment about me making a rug for the living room floor! Nope, not gonna do it. We're thinking of a wood laminate flooring with perhaps a small area rug in the center. (It wouldn't have to be more than 2 x 3'. ;o])

P.S. You can warm you buns by our wood stove any time.

Karen L. - It's been blowing and snowing here all day. Temp is around 30 which is making the roads slippery. I think we may have gotten about 3" but it's hard to tell with all the blowing. I have lots and lots of quilts and wall hangings I've made . . . just not anything recently. :o(

Sparkless - Well, bless your little heart for saying it looks cozy. You should have seen the corners I wedged myself into to get these pictures. You're right; you can never get far enough away in a small room.

It all looks great, Mama Pea. And I love your solution to the TV problem. The TV is neatly contained and not obnoxious. Good job!-"M"

Quite spacious. I'm not kidding. I have room for one couch, one chair, one ottoman and a tv. That's it. And I love it...though yours is better with those beautiful pine walls. Gosh, it's so "comfortable". I just love it.

That's the first thing I noticed too! The quilts!
The room isn't finished? Honestly, I have to go back now to see.

"M" - We've never shopped for a new TV so this might be an eye-opening experience for us. I hope we can get a flat screen that is small enough for the space we need to fit it into.

Sue - Where do I send your money? I feel like it's such a mismatched, junky, overloaded room right now. I really get worried when I try to figure out how I'll ever make it look "nice."

Carolyn Renee - No, my dear, it's still a long way from finished. But come spring, we're gonna GET IT DONE!

I was just overjoyed because after trying all day, I finally was able to comment on your blog just a few minutes ago . . . then it disappeared. Waaaaaah!

It's gorgeous! Tiny rooms are underrated. I love cozy rooms where people don't need to shout to hear one another. It looks the perfect size, warm and inviting!

Hey Mama Pea-
I love your living room! It's wonderful the way it is (all cozy and country looking), and I'm sure it will be amazing when it's all fixed up the way you want it.
We got a very small flat screen TV that we use both as a TV and computer monitor. I think it's a 16 inch. They're measured from one top corner to the opposite bottom corner. The only drawback to a small flat screen is that it's too small to amplify the sound much.

A very nice space indeed - and such an interesting looking woodstove. Oh the toasty evenings you will be able to enjoy! Papa Pea is sorting just like Tramp 1 - only Tramp 1 is banished to the shop (where he has a pellet stove for heat...).

Erin - Not only will people sitting in my living room not have to shout to hear each other, they can easily play footsie with anyone else in the room, too.

Patty - Thanks, Patty, for the compliment and info!

2 Tramps - It's nice to have a place to "banish" your husband to every now and then! I always remember the old joke about when a husband retires and is home all day. The put-upon wife bemoans: "I married him for richer or poorer . . . but not for lunch!"

I love it - and though I know what you mean about not having the style furniture you want I myself don't like things to be too matchy-matchy either.

You will likely be surprised by how little you have to spend to get a smallish flat screen TV. We went shopping recently and got what I consider a HUGE TV for not very much. (Bigger than I wanted really, but it was better quality and bigger than a smaller one in another brand??)

C.O.S.Y. I would love to curl up on any piece of your furniture with a cup of tea and a book. You can leave me their until spring.

Mama Pea said...

Susan - Your plan is fine with me. I'll even dust you . . . occasionally. :o)

Mama Pea said...

Jen - Yup, I know Papa Pea and I have to just get out there and look at TVs to see what's available now. I'm not expecting to have to pay a lotta $$ since we don't want a giant, super-sized screen. My fear is not being able to find a "small" enough one!

Love it! Thanks for the tour.

Thanks so much, Ruthie!

It looks great. So fresh and inviting! Nice to have a place to park when it's cold outside, isn't it?

Mama Pea said...

Aw gee, thanks, Leigh! It was not nice that month or so when we had only the kitchen table to sit at of an evening!!
