I woke early this morning and couldn't fall back asleep so I got up and used the time to finish the rug I've been working on.
I was shooting for a finished size of 2' x 3'. Final measurement: 23" x 35". Close enough, I say.
I made it to go at the bottom of the stairs going up to Papa Pea's office. (Wanna guess how many trips he made up and down before he noticed it?) I'm happy with the way it looks there. It may look even better when the permanent flooring gets laid over the plywood the rug is on now.
Okay. Now on to Crocheted Rag Rug #3, The Tutorial, coming up!

Your rug is beautiful! I don't crochet..I learned how a very long time ago and never really got the hang of it (I spin, weave, knit and quilt)...but, I just love this rug..the idea of crocheting a rug is something that peaks my interest. I think I may have a new summer project! Looking forward to the tutorial.
Yes, it is a work of art! Very nice of you to share your knowledge with us - I might have the necessary materials for a project like this. And at least Papa Pea did actually notice it in time!
congratulations on finishing ... you can always add on later if the mood strikes. Looks terrific. Now waiting for your tutorial to see if I want to start yet another project.
That's a beautiful rug! And looking forward to the tutorial......are there things we should be gathering to get ready for the big day?
LOVE IT! Especially the dark border. Beautiful!
Judy
That's beautiful!
How beautiful! The perfect size for it's spot. My guess -- at least 5 times up and down before he noticed :-)
Love it! I'm saving my scraps for your tutorial Mama Pea!
Have a beautiful weekend!
its beautiful, and I love that 3rd color in from the outside, did I hear though the snow man weather report you have bad road conditions again,is he right or should I melt him!
I told you that getting up early thing comes in handy! Now if I only had some talents to use at that hour of the day besides reading blogs-LOL!
Before he noticed? LOL Must be the male phenomenon. I actually went to the thrift store yesterday to look for old sheets for weaving some rag rugs for my kitchen. I haven't woven anything since we moved here!
Beautiful rug, love the colors..
The rug is beautiful!
I have always wanted to crochet a rag rug! I will be watching for the tutorial.
Did he ever notice the rug?.....mine probably would not or if he did, might not even mention it.
8 times?
I once made a valance of sorts to decorate the shade in my son's room - large prairie point triangles in rainbow solids which I bound on one edge. It looked a little like one of those plastic pennants you hang at parties or used car lots (lol!) My son, who was about 3 at the time, walked into his room and didn't notice it. I pointed it out to him and asked if he liked it. He shrugged and asked why I had bothered. I took that as proof it was hard-wired from birth!
I really like the crocheted rug. You did a very nice job.
Wonderful, I wish I knew how to make something like this!
That's beautiful! I need one of those in my houses, so a tutorial would be great.
Lynda - Making this rug involves only the most basic of crocheting stitches. I know you could do it.
2 Tramps - When I rearrange or put something new out he will always say, "Um, how long has that been there?" He now knows it's probably been there a while before his brain registers something new.
Tombstone Livestock - Oh, you do want to make one, you do!! ;o]
Carolyn Renee - If you already have or have access to (free) cotton fabric, you're all set. Jane over at Hard Work Homestead was given 4 trillion t-shirts or Polo shirts (I can't remember which) and she used those. I think wool would be too hard to work up in crochet. (Good for braided rugs, though.) Sheets (the more colorful the better, I would choose) would be good, too.
Judy - I put the darker border on because I wanted blue and didn't have enough for a double row of anything but the dark blue. But I do like the way it "finished" the rug.
meemsnyc - Thank you!
dr momi - Nope, only took three!
Poppy - Thank you! I hope to get going on the tutorial first of this coming week.
judy - No, no big weather problems. No snow . . . still but lots of ice from our 30 degree days and then plunging down at night. :o(
Sue - You, m'dear, are hiding your light under a bushel basket. What do you call your paintings? Chopped liver? How about your musical talent? Huh??
Leigh - Any chance you could actually get your loom set up . . . somewhere . . . so you could do some weaving? I think handwork (withOUT a tool belt involved) is good for our souls.
Blackberry brambles - Thank you! You just never know how all the colors are gonna look until . . . well, until you have them worked in!
gld - I think the tutorial will have to be done in a couple/few parts but I'm eager to get started on it. Hubby did notice the rug after about three trips up and down the stairs. Loftier things on his mind, you know. ;o}
Jen - Hard-wired from birth is the truth! I sure hope you kept that valance. It sounds like a work of art.
Teresa - Thank you for your kind words.
Chai Chai - It is really an easy method. I know you could do it!
The Weekend Homesteader - Thank you! You'll be making one soon, I hope!
That is gorgeous! I'm really getting the creative urge. Time to start a project! :)
Men!!! He did pretty good at only three passes before noticing the new rug. I'll be he would notice if you moved his tools or books or car (or dinner plate?). Have you ever cut your hair and he didn't notice? Again, men!!! Can't live with them; can't live without them ... most of the time. But you gotta love them because we have our faults too. Oh and your rug is great!
Beautiful rug! I have a friend that lost about 100 lbs., and made a rag rug out of all her old clothes that didn't fit anymore. Then each day, she would walk all over her old clothes!!
~~Lori
Patty - I think it's important that we do something creative with our hands. (More than preparing meals, cleaning toilets and folding laundry!!)
Karen L. - We women have our faults?? WE have faults? And all this time I thought HE was the one who was always wrong! ;o}
Lori - What a GREAT story! And what a innovative way to get rid of her "fat" clothes but still get use out of them!!
What a lovely rug! I know only the basic crochet stitch- at least I think I remember it- and we are moving into an old farm house with lots of wood floors and no rugs to my name....I might have to try this!
Sadie - Thanks for commenting! Oh, I hope you do try it. I think one of them would look lovely in your farm house with the old wood floors.
Very pretty!
Erin - You, too, can have one like it soon!!
