Think of the hours I'll save not having to open or close cabinet doors for a while!
We're going to re-use the hinges on the new doors so they need to come off the old doors.
B is working on constructing the new 12' long counter top that will hold the sink, so it was time for what was left of the old sink counter to go.
Ummm . . . I guess I no longer have a kitchen sink.
Here's the first trial of the piece cut for the new counter. The kitchen area is part of the house that was a bunk house moved here from a resort quite a ways away so the walls are not even close to square in any direction. That's why we have to construct this counter rather than ordering a custom-made one.
I just came in from doing some polying and Papa Pea and B are at her home shop cutting the laminate for the counter tops with special tools. Hoping they get back soon as I'd really, really like to have my sink hooked back up today. Realistically though, I don't thinks that's gonna happen until tomorrow. But that's fine 'cause it's all in the name of progress. Yay, progress!

Does this mean you get to go out to eat? It's like camping, but cleaner, right? Progress is a very good thing. Your kitchen is going to be fab.u.lous.
I like what Susan said, eat out if you don't have a sink. It's starting to look like progress has been made. Can't wait to see it all finished.
I'd wish for you to not have a sink for a day or two also, but then I realize your the type (like me) that would STILL cook a meal and then do dishes in the tub. So--here's to getting your sink back, crazy gal!

Do you have a punch list of what is left to do? Are you getting close, cuz I'd sure hate to see you miss quilting season too!

Not having a sink is a pain. But at least there is hope that you will have one tomorrow. Somehow the time warp in my house would make that a month or more with out a sink. The kitchen looks so inviting without doors. Makes me want to grab a plate and get something to eat.
Susan - Just put a slap-dash dinner on the table for us tonight so didn't go out . . . rats. I do know breakfast tomorrow morning is NOT going to be the usual eggs and bacon or sausage! Granola, anyone?
Sparkless - Yep, today we DID see some progress. It will be even moreso tomorrow!
Sue - Oh, you do know me so well! And I don't even have a tub to do the dishes in. Just a smallish bathroom sink that I'm not going to use unless I have to. For now, I'm collecting all the dirty dishes in a cardboard box!
APG - The kitchen is getting close. But there is still the room that will be our living room that is nothing but insulated walls and a temporary staircase going up to Papa Pea's office. We have to build a permanent staircase and put a wood stove in there . . . and do the walls, ceiling and floor. That's all.

Jane - Aw, how sweet of you to say that. When we were just sitting eating, hubby said he thought the open cabinets looked kinda cozy. I was surprised myself that they didn't look messier. Should I even THINK of going without doors???
I can't wait to see what new doors you get! I just LOVE that yellow, seems to me it would help kick-start your day every morning to see such a cheery kitchen :)
p.s. I'm with APG, you need to get back into quilting mode for winter, I need all my inspiration gals in tip-top shape!
I took a couple of the doors off my kitchen cabinets, and it makes it cozy, like you said. I was going to paint, but they were put in the shed instead! The rest of the doors are still in place, but I like it a little bit rustic.
When you get your new doors, try not putting up 2 or 3 and see how that goes.

Erin - Thanks on the yellow color! I can hardly wait to see how cozy it will look on a winter morning . . . with a fire crackling in the wood stove!
At the moment I'm not feeling too hopeful for quilting time soon. But, oh gosh, I miss it so much. But I also want a finished house. Sigh.
Yvette - What I am thinking of is glass fronts on a couple of them . . . we'll see.

Yay progress indeed! It looks fantastic. Just like the photos in the kitchen books I've been checking out from the library. I imagine you're getting very excited!
