This week we've let our poultry out onto their huge summer pasture and they seem so, so glad to stretch their legs and wings and breathe in tons of fresh air all day long.
They are so busy scurrying from one spot to another, munching on the new green shoots poking up through last fall's dead grass.
"Sorry, don't have time to stop and chat. Can't waste a moment of this glorious day of freedom after being cooped up (pun intended) all winter!"
The white blobs you see in the pond are miniature icebergs . . . all that is left of the ice that only a week ago covered it completely.
"Yippee, I've found a worm! He's cold and moving very slowly but it's (yum!) a worm."We can't help but feel like it REALLY will be an early spring this year in the northwoods. And wouldn't that be nice??

Ugh, we still have almost complete snow cover down hear. Although the rains and melt are creating hidden lakes under the snow. Your hens look like they have survived being cooped up very nicely. Most of my hens have bare spots on their backs.

I'm surprised our hens aren't bare-backed 'cause we kept more rooster over winter than we should have.

After a week of temps in the 40's our snow is almost gone here too.....and I'm not missing it one bit!

Early spring here, too. Spoke too soon about us not having any flooding *sigh*.

We have 15 hens and too many (read that as 5) roosters.
Living just south of Duluth, as I do, I am hoping spring has sprung, but am sure it has not. I don't care, it was 65 yesterday, the snow is almost gone, I will take it. Even the cooling down this coming weekend. Still at least 2 1/2 months from planting, but at least now there is hope that spring will come.
