A Thought To Remember in December
It is August 8th, 85° and humid. It's 4:30 in the afternoon, I'm cranky, hot, bug-bitten and totally exhausted from working outside on a million different projects since early this morning . . . AND there are still a couple hours to work before dinner (which will be smoothies 'cause I don't have time or energy for anything else). Then we have to go back outside after dinner to finish a time-sensitive project --- grass seeding, this time.
So in December, savor 4:30 in the afternoon (dark yet?), savor the day spent indoors, savor the good dinner, savor the long evening ahead spent reading, quilting, knitting, or relaxing.
HOORAY FOR WINTER!!

I MUCH prefer the winter-always easy to pop on a warm sweater or curl up under a quilt. Enjoy the day!
Oh this is wonderful---the seasons in stark relief. So maybe it just boils down to this...that I'm cranky, regardless of the weather?
Isn't that the truth?! When it's 100 degrees here in August with unbearable humidity, I find that I can't even picture winter... how soon we forget what the seasons feel like!
Hi, Sue - That's the way I usually feel, too. But sometimes I get tired of having to spend 15 minutes putting on gear to dash out for 5 minutes in the winter time! (Our temp got down to 0° last night with a wind . . . ugh.)
Hi, Mama JJ - Yeah, that's it. You're a total crank-pot. But you write and cook so well that you're forgiven. ;o)
Hey, Erin - I KNOW! Every night now when it's almost totally dark at 4:30 I think, "If this were July, there's no way I would be thinking of 'winding down' for the day. I'd still have five more hours of go-go-go!"
Please post this again at the end of February, when we'll have had four months of freeze and ice, with March (heaviest snow month) yet to go. I'll need a good dose of your optimism then! :)
Hooray for winter is right Mama Pea! I never feel guilty about spending hours knitting in front of a roaring fireplace!
Hi, Jo - Don't forget . . . the snow in March never stays around for long. Well, MOST years anyway. :o)
Hi, Ruthie - Yay, for knitting, yay, for wood fires! I've been bitten by the knitting bug again. Have a baby sweater about 3/4 done. Will post it when I finish it. Have to hurry . . . baby shower is this coming Sunday!
Amen.
