I made a trip to town around 1 p.m. this afternoon. Went around a curve in the driveway on the way out and just about plowed into six good-sized deer blocking my way. Darn, when will I learn to always take my camera with me when I leave home? If I had had it on the seat next to me, I think I could have gotten a good picture. The deer and I had a stare-off for a good five seconds before they decided they didn't like the looks of me and bounded off into the woods.
Heard some folks in the county lost their dog this week. Wolves came up on their front porch and took him there.
We had a very gray, overcast day today with some short periods of spitting sleet/rain/hail/snow. The wind picked up just before dusk and continues to howl now at 7 p.m. Forecast is for snow tomorrow. Could be significant or not depending on whether it comes as far north as we are or stays to the south. It's definitely still winter around here. Sounds like tomorrow may be a good bread baking day. A good day for doing anything while warm and protected inside.
Here's a quote to ponder:
"Year by year the complexities of this spinning world grow more bewildering and so each year we need all the more to seek peace and comfort in the joyful simplicities.”
The above taken from Women's Home Companion, 1935.

The complexities of 1935?!? Did they have iPhones and Blackberries back then, too?!? Just kidding. We just trade one complexity for another, I guess. We have more modern conveniences now (indoor plumbing, which I still appreciate every time I use it, too!) but live at a frenetic pace.
From what we know of life in 1935, it seems as though times would have been so uncomplicated and SIMPLE then. I guess it just shows to go ya that everything is relative. I'm sure if a person in 1935 had been given a glimpse of our lives today it would look so totally futuristic as to be out of the realm of possibility.
I'm glad Roy didn't get hurt.
I always wish I had another small digital camera to carry along with me everywhere, because I'm like you--always seeing interesting things and no camera!
Hi, Ruthie - Both Roy and I are very lucky in that we seem to be blessed with strong, German bones and don't get hurt when we take a tumble. BUT he fell again yesterday morning and came in so mad he was spitting nails. This time the bucket he was carrying was empty but he fell on it (his favorite rigid plastic one) and cracked it! It was one we've had for I bet 30 years and, of course, they don't make them anymore! Oh, the hazards of winter time.
